On June 17, 2024, S-MODUL was designated as a “Research and Development Type” venture company.

Since the reorganization of the venture company system in February 2021, the evaluation method has changed significantly, making it much more difficult to pass the screening. The term "venture company" itself means that the certification selects innovative companies with an adventurous spirit. Among them, the "Research and Development Type" qualification is only available to companies with an in-house research lab or a dedicated research and development department.

First, let's look at the requirements for the Research and Development Type.

1. According to [Article 2 of the Small and Medium Business Act], it must be a “small or medium-sized enterprise.”

2. It must have a "corporate-affiliated research institute" or a "dedicated R&D department" recognized under the [Basic Research Promotion and Technology Development Support Act].

3. Most importantly, the R&D expenses of the company in the four quarters preceding the quarter in which the venture company confirmation request is made must be at least 50 million KRW, and the R&D expenses must be at least 5% of the total sales.

4. Finally, it must be evaluated by a "venture company verification agency" and be assessed as having excellent business growth potential.

S-MODUL was evaluated as meeting the above four criteria and was able to receive the final "Research and Development Type" venture company certification.
